#WalnutCreekWednesdays: September recap!

#WalnutCreekWednesdays: September recap!

This past August we started a series on our Instagram account called #WalnutCreekWednesdays where we feature a small local shop and enjoy some conversation over a box of delicious chocolate. The series has been very well received by all of you and it's super fun for us! Not only do we get to give a shout out to some of our favorite shops and their owners but we also support our local business community and encourage people to shop small.

Slowly but surely, we are mapping out this amazing community of awesome small businesses, run by really cool people. These folks provide a wide array of awesome products and services. We are very proud to be a part of this community and will continue to support the #ShopSmall movement!

Here is a quick recap of the shops we visited during the month of September; you can always look at all of our features through the Highlighted Stories on our Instagram Bio

Thred Up was created 10 years ago with the initial idea of having a peer-to-peer online marketplace where people could buy and sell second-hand clothes and accessories. Essentially they match people who want to refresh their wardrobe by letting go some of their items that are still in great condition with people who are looking for clothes of great quality at great prices. The company has been very successful online and recently they decided to get in the brick-and-mortar game and have opened three retail stores in the Bay Area but ship across all of the USA. ⠀

What makes Lottie’s stand out is that besides knowing their ice cream and crafting from scratch all of their product in their own shop, they focus on fresh new flavors all the time! The team gets together once a week to decide what flavors they will offer. A lot of things are taken into account when deciding upon what flavors to offer, but the most important one is the seasonality of the ingredients. When looking at the board that hangs in their shop you will always find something that will make everybody happy; whether you like classic and popular flavors or if you are feeling adventurous and would like to try something new; either way it will be delicious!

Tonic Skin Bar is an oasis that has recently opened its doors thanks to the hard work of owner, Andrea. She is an experienced esthetician who's worked for more than 15 years in the beauty business with some of the top brands, traveling all across the world picking up the latest trends. She then decided to come back home to the Bay Area and make Tonic Skin Bar a reality. This is more than skincare; Andrea has truly poured all of her love and passion into this place creating a boutique studio that focuses on natural holistic skincare. She has incorporated luxurious details with modern skincare found in top spas and has made them accessible through her wonderful space with the bonus of her professional, knowledgeable and warm one-on-one attention to her clients.

With many years of experience under his belt, Wes has recently opened the doors to his own barber shop here in Walnut Creek. With a very classic yet cool style, Wes brings to life the art in his craft paying homage to the traditional ways of barbering. Did you know that he perfected his studies at the Old School Barber Academy in The Netherlands? I say you pay him a visit to experience the real thing; classic hairstyle, real barber chair, straight razor clean up and a hot towel to finish. Be sure to book an appointment beforehand with Wes; you can do that through his website TheSaltyBarber.com⠀

We continue to feature some of our favorite shops every Wednesday and then we will re-cap them in our blog each season. We really encourage you to check them all out!!
